Bio:Computer Programmer and Unix System Administrator

I don't post articles very often. I prefer to think through the things I want to say, before committing them to public articles. Sometimes public events irritate me enough to override this tendency, but most of the time, I see irritation is a sign that I need to step back and think before posting. I've experimented with posting more mundane news, and no doubt I'll continue doing so, but I don't usually post much about my personal life. Friends only posts are quite rare for me, so you're not missing much, if you're not on my friends list.

If you are not a spammer, you are welcome to send me email. But, you should keep in mind that spammers have rendered my email account nearly useless. I get around 150 pieces or more of spam in my in box most every day, and these low life scum will use any trick they can to fool me into opening their messages. I believe that spammers should be put in jail. In any case, you can increase your message's change of standing out by making sure your name or account or something easily recognizable shows in the "From:" address, and by putting something meaninful or distinctive in the subject line. If you don't get a response within a few days, try again.

I'm reorganizing the information in this section. The first step was to split off the information about my political views into a separate entry titled "Reluctant Liberal". The second step was to separate my views about rational discussion into a separate entry. You can't understand me without understanding what's in this second entry.

If I had to guess one word that most people who know me to use to describe me, that word would be "Analytical". I am analytical enough that it troubles some people, but in my defense, I should say that I do apply my analytical skills to make sure I am treating other people fairly.

I don't generally do memes. I'm not offended by them, but they just don't interest me. If you tag me to be the next person to do your favorite meme, I'll be honored and flattered that you thought of me, but I'm unlikely to actually do the meme.

Blogs I frequently visit:

    Slashdot - Did I mention I am a nerd?

Philosoraptor - Winston Smith is a thoughful, moderate liberal. If more of my fellow liberals were as thoughtful as Winston, perhaps conservatives wouldn't be so unified against us.

The Volokh Conspiracy - Eugene Volokh is a law professor, specializing in First Amendment law. He and a number of co-bloggers post articles at this site, and Dr. Volokh, in particular, is quite good at cutting through retoric to core legal issues.
