When you start shaking, are unable to think, can't perform simple tasks, legs feel like lead, you're bonking and probably just need to eat a little something and stop for a minute. I remember listening to someone I knew talk expansively about how there was no such thing as bonking and people who hit the wall are just out of condition, period, and nothing will help. I shouldn't have listened--when you run out of available fuel, you've bonked, and no amount of conditioning will keep you performing at your best when you have run out of glycogen and blood-glucose and can't metabolize fat fast enough. If you aren't feeling your best, stop, take a drink, and eat a few bites of something. Chances are you'll feel 100% better when you start off again.

This is the Katy Trail.

My symptoms aren't that pronounced, at the point where I should do something about it, but I suspect I would still benefit from eating something. I typically ride out and then back along the same trail. I ought to plan on stopping at the point where I turn around and eating something then.

Thanks for the link. I'm no where close to being ready to ride that trail, but it's good to know about. It looks like that's something that would take several days, even for someone in much better shape than I am.
